Looking back, it seems that I was the first one to be on notice that the book was coming. I was also warned not to get too close to the process or I would contaminate a purity and exactness of message that apparently superceded anything I could intellectually grasp or muster.
I guess you could say I was a contributing ‘author’ although I did not write a single word nor was I even present when the sections of the book started to appear mysteriously and dramatically in several consecutive nights, some of which were actually dark and stormy – I kid you not!
The manuscript arrived in perfection and completeness all by itself as un-spaced continuous letters that we subsequently chopped up into words, sentences and paragraphs. To drive home the point of my clearly subordinate role , when my editorial perspective was offered, the computer would cutely and methodically reverse my every change as though I was being over-ruled by some unseen Supreme Editor.
So here’s the question. Where do books really come from, anyways? Do we invent them, painfully churning them out through discipline, denial and isolation or do we find them already written and waiting within each one of us to be discovered and published?
Tom Bird, perhaps America’s foremost writing coach and mentor to more than some 100,000 authors over the past several decades, maintains we each have a divine Author within that is already aware of a complete narrative and perfect book within us. He says that as we find our way through the haze and tangle of daily life into our ever present deep state of inner stillness and wholeness, the book will start to flow spontaneously in its completeness. Upon recording this inner dictation we at once start to heal ourselves and start to manifest a source of healing for others through our unfolding manuscript.
Once Tom’s students embark on this path they tend to birth a complete manuscript, typically in a single extended weekend session with Tom, writing at a rate of 1500 to 2000 handwritten words per hour. Within a few short weeks a surprisingly large percentage of those manuscripts find themselves published and distributed, even internationally, through established book publishers.
Over the next several blogs I will re-tell the background of how this book, that we decided to call Feeling God, came to be, now nearly seven years ago. The completed manuscript comprises 344 modern day proverbs, all regal and elegant in a consistent tone and touching at times on the epigrammatic, yet without a shadow of negativity or ever a hint of satire.
Three years later, virtually to the day that the first pages of the book was starting to arrive, I was awakened in the middle of the night with the exact text for number 345 that came this time in a different tone from the original pages that resonated with the geography and culture of the region to which I had been suddenly dispatched immediately upon the original completion of the book and where I was surprisingly to visit once again.
Handcuffed in the editing process of this book, beyond delineating words and sentences and adding punctuation, we were unable (and also by then reluctant) to attempt to redact the incongruent passages peppered through the text that included strange names and numbers, occasional enigmatic mathematical formulae and obscure technological references.
My best guess is that what was transferred to us is a kind of specific yet coded Spiritual and socially practical survival manual. You can decide for yourself.
Along with the telling of this story I will publish a daily verse of Feeling God on my Twitter, Facebook and even Google Plus circle: From Sparrows to Eagles. Each daily entry will be accompanied with a photograph revealing more of the text. Your insight to meaning of these verses will be valued and deeply appreciated.
And so here is the opening paragraph:
This book is a revelation. It is intended for those who are ready to receive it. It has found you because you are ready to begin. It is not meant to be understood. It is meant to be revealed.
I look forward to seeing you on your favourite social media forum for daily installments of the text. To follow this thread you can find me as follows:
